That One Newsletter – July Edition

by Frank Deardurff III

Well my newsletter is officially launched!

Not exactly as quickly as I had hoped but I hope you find it useful. You can read the current edition at http://www.thatonenewsletter.com/current-issue.php

I’ll be posting the old archives again soon as I add more to the site. One thing I had forgoten was the formatting needed to make sure it works in all email clients. To achieve this it is best to format in straight HTML – NO CSS! Although I’ve been creating almost everything in nearly complete CSS these days, I found that many of the email clients disable CSS even online email clients such as Gmail. Fortunately I make it a rule of thumb to test things before going live with them.

In this issue you will find out about current happenings, and this months “Cool Tool”. Also the featured article is on Simple Passwords, things to watch out for and good practices. You’ll also be able to meet this months featured “Reader Spotlight” and find out how to get featured as well.

Just visit http://www.thatonenewsletter.com/current-issue.php then come back and leave me a comment on your thoughts of my newsletter.

I’ll answer as many questions as I can in that hour. At the end of the hour I’ll pull one name at random to win a FREE year of access to my “60 Minutes with Frank” Members Only Website.

This call will be recorded, but will NOT be offered right away for replay (this is the part I’m testing) and here’s why. We always tell ourselves we’ll listen later and we never do.

Believe me I’ve done this time and time again myself, old habits are the hardest to break.

So be sure to post your question at:

>>> http://www.askdatabase.com/campaigns/?af=50150

On the webinar I’ll show you how to get through where you are stuck be sure to register for the webinar right away because I only have 200 spots and they will fill up fast.

I’m looking forward to your questions and answering as many of them I can on Tuesday June 30th, 2009

Mistakeable Guarantee

by Frank Deardurff III

This is a common mistake on many websites and that is either a non-existant or weak guarantee.

There are many misconceptions about using a guarantee on the website. I’ve heard some discussion about the fact that if they add a guarantee to their website they are afraid that brings to light the possibility that the buyer can return the product.

I think that’s the furthest thing from the truth. In fact by not having a guarantee on your website makes the buyer think that the product is either, a possible scam, OR you do not have enough faith in the product to warrant a guarantee.

Of course there is always the possibility you simply forgot to add the guarantee to your website. Here are some things to consider when creating or updating the guarantee you have.

Most merchant accounts and payment processors want or require you to have a guarantee policy easily displayed on your website, be sure to check out what they require and adjust accordingly.

Be sure to make your guarantee “look” like a guarantee policy. Many times I see this section look like the normal sales copy on the page or if there is a box around it, it resembles the other boxes on the page.

What I’ve found to work well is add an image that resembles a certificate as a background image or create (or have created) the whole thing as a graphic to easily place all of the elements you want in that area.

Also what is appealing is to add an official seal to that area. You can easily find these at either istockphoto.com or fotolia.com both of these stock photo websites will allow you to purchase at a very reasonable price both the certificate and seal images to use on your website.

Finally, don’t leave any doubt about what your policy is, explain the details and be sure that it fits the offer. You wouldn’t use the same policy for a live event, teleseminar or webinar that you would for say an ebook, physical product, or services rendered. Simply do a little research what others may be doing and then modify to meet your needs and of course test to see what gets you the best conversions.

Feel free to check out any of my websites as an example.

Somebody’s Calling Me Names!

by Frank Deardurff III

Ok in this case that’s a good thing!

In case you haven’t heard this weekend I became a Grandpa and I’m really excited.

This is a whole new chapter to our lives and we are so looking forward to it. Still not really sure what I’ll be called, Grandpa; Gramps; GrandDad.

loganJust to let you know my oldest Daughter Kellianne and her Husband Kyle gave birth to a BEAUTIFUL son this weekend Logan Alexander 8lbs 7oz 22 inches long.

Now i’m thinking about life and things I’m supposed to do as a grandpa, and kinda looking back at life to this point and reflecting a little and trying to make sure I do my part as a Grand Dad at set a good example for this little guy.

So without getting to sentimental or mush I’d like to say one thing (maybe two LOL)…

As an adult we must be positive examples for those who may be watching and modeling themselves based on what we do!

One of my most favorite quotes is by Benjamin Franklin “A mistake is truly a mistake if you learn nothing from it!”

In looking back I’ve tried to take that quote to heart. Look at what mistake I’d made, think about what I should have done and move forward. You gain nothing by dwelling on what you can’t change, but you gain everything by turning a negative into a positive.

I’ll be posting updates to my blog ThatOneGrandpa.com just in case you want to take a peak!

I’m still trying to figure out what my role as a GrandDad should be so I can be, I’d love to hear your comments on this as well as what your favorite “grandpa name is!”
